- McMurry House / This view of the McMurry pioneer home. (Later to / be known as Chichester place, since grandmother remarried /after the death of grandfather in 1860.) / The picture was taken from from the tract that later / became the U of O campus. We do not know the year, / but judging by the size of the fruit trees, it must / have been between 1860 and '65. , a few years before it / was acquired for the site for the university. The / plot enclosed by rail and board fence is where the / dormitory stands. Across , enclosed by rail and board / fences, is where Prof. Collier built his house many / years later. / On the extreme right, the highest hill was in the home place, as known by the map. Father made the / brick for Deady Hall in 1871(I believe) and for Villard Hall / in 1885. Also for the first gymnasium - long since gone - . / Grandfather was the first treasurer of Lane County. / He contributed to the funds to start the university. / Frank G. McMurry
