- Hand tinted image. A street scene in Nanking, China with a procession of individuals identified as Yuan Shikai and his officials.Yuan Shikai was China's head of state from 1912-1916. The men are dressed in military uniforms, with weapons strapped to their backs. Yuan Shikai sits in a wooden seat carried by two men. One man walks next to Yuan Shikai holding an umbrella over his head. Spectators line the sidewalks. Visible in the background are buildings, utility poles, electrical lines, huts, carriages, trees, and a bamboo fence.
