A candid portrait of a sailor and his mother inside the Alpine Tavern, located in Alpine, Oregon. The sailor is identified as J.D. Gregory and his mother is identified as Irma. The man is dressed in a sailor's uniform. His mother is seated on a stool touching her son's cheek as he leans over to kiss her. Irma's hair is curled and she is dressed in a two-piece plaid outfit. A woman employee is visible behind the bar dressed in eyeglasses, a button-up blouse, skirt, and apron. Behind her is a large refrigerator with double doors. Taped to this refrigerator is a sign the reads, We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. On top of this refrigerator a can and two small boxes are visible.
