- An indoor portrait of two schoolgirls eating lunch at the Hadleyville school, located in Lane County, Oregon. The girls are seated on a wooden bench in a corner of the schoolroom. The girl on the right appears to be whispering to the other, as she leans toward her, holding her left hand over her mouth. She holds a sandwich in her right hand that rests on a metal pail located on her lap. The girl on the left of the image holds an unidentified object in her hands, which rests on a tin box with the words Dixie Queen Plug Cut Smoking Tobacco on its surface. Both girls wear dresses and lace-up boots. On the wall directly behind the girls is a blackboard with the week's lesson plan handwritten in chalk. At the base of the blackboard an eraser rests on a wooden ledge. At the right edge of the image is a partial view of a window.
