- The druggists Wood & Company and the architect John Nestor were among the first tennants of this building. John Nestor was born in about 1836 in Ireland. He arrived in Portland in about 1864 from San Francisco and designed numerous works, few of which are known today or are still extant. He left the architectural profession in about 1877 and moved to Cornelius, Oregon, where he managed a farm. In the 1880 US Census, Nestor is listed as a farmer, living in Cornelius with wife Mary (age 28), and children Carrie (8), John (6), and Lille (3).
