Description
A platinum/palladium-toned photograph of a smooth sandy beach trail, harbored between very large rocks. In the middle of the rocks, is a litttle pool of water, a remnant of the tide. In the background, the mist devours the scenary and the environment fades. Winema Bluff, Oregon, 1989; 7.5 x 9.5 inches; platinum palladium print The Oregon Arts Commission has ten Regional Arts Councils that provide delivery of art services and information. Note
My platinum prints are made by contact from 8 x 10 inch negatives. They are hand-coated on fine art paper. I have chosen this outmoded printing method because platinum has a greater capacity than commercial silver-based papers to register the long tonal scale available in a negative, particulary the gradation in middle and high value. The great appeal of platinum prints lies in their beauty, in the luminosity of print values. The prints are tactile objects in themselves, full of the impression of substance and atmosphere. Biographical Information
WINEMA OREGON, 1989: Encrustations of primeval reptilian form anchor being in this landscape of heaving and seeping earth, where even the ground underfoot sinks away. Ravaged by relentless lashing of surf, these mythic casts resist obliteration. Is this the apprehension lurking beneath the tranquility of the day? Or is it dread of a storm sea, and the careless sweeping of the tides? Yet one feels harbored between the stalwart sentinels. It is a refuge carved by that force which carved the rock, and which finally will dissolve it. (Harding, 1990)
