- Last November I learned that our view to the south of our Cannon Beach home was going to be blocked by new buildings. In order to remember this view I began to paint it from the front, south window. About February, I ran out of the paper I had been using, so I sent away for more, only to receive a size smaller. Thus began the series of two pieces, side by side. As I worked more and more I began to get more and more frantic doing as many as six paintings per day. The numbers in the titles indicate the date and the number completed that day. These are paintings, but they are not mean to be in-depth studies of a single scene. Instead, taken as a whole, they become an in-depth study of colors, tide, weather, and all that goes into my vanishing view. Each painting is oil on either Utrecht 14C lb., water color paper, heavy weight; or strathmore two ply drawing bristol board , 100% cotton fibre, medium surface.
