A stylized, nighttime landscape scene where most of the picture plane is occupied by a piled succession of rocks in mauve, sage green, light brown, and gray. A pattern of white lines spill out between some of the rocks. A silhouette of a treeline and a gradated, dark blue sky with a white star with a tail comprise the background.

It has been 11 years since I started to live in the Northwest. Attracted to the beauty of waterfall, I have created over a hundred paper cuttings of the different falls. During these past 11 years, I have sketched oceans, rivers and water falls trying to capture the natural beauty and I hoped and dreamed of expressing this wonderful nature by the old and traditional art technique called paper cutting from Japan and China. "Shooting Star" is one of my Night Scene series. This is the subject i dreamed of and the natural beauty in the night i tried to express. I am very proud and honored to have this work selected to decorate the walls of the Western Oregon State Residence Hall. I hope and pray that my artwork will be loved and appreciated by the students, teachers, staff and visitors of your school. (Sogabe, 1989)
