This painting, done in realistic tones, depicts a scene with two houses adorned by virtue of their historic architecture. A green, coniferous tree seperates them underneath a tumultuous sky. The style of the brush strokes conveys a sense of movement to the whole scene.

The streets on the hills in Astoria have long fascinated me. I held a particular romance with the 14th -15th streets area. The result is this painting looking north on 14th street from Irving. I execute all my paintings from nature, prefering the smell and beauty of the street before me rather than drawing upon my memory in the confining space of a studio. (Bennett, 1991)
