- It was as if the roller was a part of my father. They had witnessed the same jobs and problems. The hot and cold days as well as the elements. The roller died, and now abandoned, it is slowly disintegrating into what it once was. We all travel this road and it struck me that the roller and my father are kinsmen- both are tough old birds. (Allen, 1990)
