I was completely unfamiliar with the area before this commission; am now in love with it and intend to return as often as possible. The lushness of bluegrass farms, rich history of the Oregon Trail and fossil discoveries, grandeur of Wallowa Lake- all are overwhelming- the charm of the small towns in this area- their sense of community pride, friendliness, openness; it's an escape from the frustrations of big city life; a look back to real values. My wife and I intend to vacation here when we can- and envy those lucky enough to be able to enjoy this gentle way of life. We could not have installed this piece without the help of Jim Brown from the Dept. of Transportation- he was unbelievably helpful in a stressful and difficult installation. He was completely selfless and giving, and we thank him immensely! (Meehan, 1990)
