My goals from the beginning of this project were to make paintings that would be interesting and appealing to the Tennis Recreation Center staff and visitors, while satisfying my needs and intuition as an artist. I endeavored to make paintings that would relate to the TRC, yet, be received, not as ""sports art"", but, ""art"". I was conscious of the people who would come in contact with these paintings several times weekly, for years. My hope is these paintings will offer interest and discovery in a year and in five years. Before beginning the paintings, I sat in on classes and activities to observe and draw, searching for the spirit of the particular sport. Capturing the spirit or escence was more important to me than portraying a litteral depiction. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. All the people in volved have been supportive and helpful. I was priveledged to create seven large paintings ( a truly pleasureable experience ) that had the perfect home waiting for them. (Park, 2003)
