- This piece consists of two wooden constructions that hang from the ceiling in relation to each other. The shapes share a form that resembles an inflated boomerang. The larger of the two shapes hangs lower than the smaller one, and it is oriented vertically while the smaller one is oriented horizontally. - Quinn Coliseum: The Physical Education building, or University Coliseum, was completed in 1958. The swimming pool was added in 1970. This complex was named (1973) for Ernest Robert (Bob) Quinn (1898-1972), Director of Athletics of the University from its founding in 1929 until his retirement in 1967. He coached varsity football, basketball, track and baseball, and his record included seven conference championship basketball teams. He was named to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1963. (EOU 2005 Student Handbook). - Biographical Information
- For this project, I explored the idea of creating a sculpture with dynamic movement to capture the activities in the gym. The dynamic theme fits in well with the streamlined and organic forms inherant in my current work. When people walk into the gym, the first thing they see is the cast shadow of the sculpture on the floor which will lead them to look up and discover the suspended sculpture above them. The sculpture has a sense of playfullness which will encourage students and the general public to come in and use the gym.
