Description
Five elderly Native American women, identified as members of the Cayuse tribe and "converts of Dr. Marcus Whitman", sit outside a large tent. The women wear headscarves, long skirts, and shawls of woolen fabric, possibly Pendleton blankets. Two of the women hold handkerchiefs in their laps. The names of the women are tentative and have not been verified yet by tribal members.
Tribal Notes
An outside photograph of five women sitting in their regalia behind a big tent. They are all sitting on the ground wearing wing dresses, shawls over their shoulders and scarves on their heads. On the left side of the photograph are a number of ropes to hold the tent down. In the far back ground is a house and porch. Writing on the photograph is under the two ladies on the right side of the photograph "Cayuse Tribe Umatilla Reservation Maj. Moorhouse."
