Note
Civil Rank Badge of blues, greens, black and red silks in a tent stitch with gold metallic threads worked over gauze. This Mandarin Square features a 5th rank Silver Pheasant recognized by 5 elaborate tail feathers. The bird is perched on top of waves, surrounded by Buddhist emblems, with a key fret pattern in the background. The addition of Buddhist symbols and other Chinese luck symbols were initially frowned upon by the Manchus who sought to impose their ways after invading and taking over China. After centuries of being in power, the Manchu government relaxed these rules. _
