- Description
- Valley of the Platte River in the vicinity of Fort Kearney where the buffalo were usually first encountered. Fort Kearney was established in 1849 to protect emigration. All routes converged here from landings along the Missouri, the Mormon Trail followed the north and the Oregon the south side of the Platte.
