"William F. Dixon who, with J.C. Avery, owned the land now included in the city of Corvallis. Dixon owned the donation land claim composing the northern half of Corvallis and Avery the southern half. Division into town lots was made in 1851. In 1848, Dixon built the first ferry south of Salem across the Willamette river. His first wife, Julia A. Rounds, Indiana, was the first white lady to reside in Corvallis. Cyrus Dixon was the first white child to be born in Corvallis."
