Note
This type of cut voided velvet, from the period of the Italian Renaissance (1420 - 1600), is known as ferronerie. It uses pomegranate motifs set in curving lines resembling decorative wrought iron work. The motifs had special significance and could only be purchased by wealthy people and churches.
