Description
"Cliffs soar 300 feet high at Smith Rock in central Oregon, where the Crooked River has cut a narrow canyon through colorful sedimentary rock. Smith Rock State Park, eight miles northeast of Redmond, offers picnicking facilities for rock climbers and inspired photographers. According to legend, the rock was named for an American soldier who fell to his death, after trying to get a better view of the surrounding plateaus and Cascade Mountains, Deschutes County."
