Leslie Fay was founded by Fred Pomerantz in 1947. Pomerantz learned about sizing women's garments from statistical information gained during WWII. He used this knowledge to design military uniforms for women. He later applied this knowledge to design better fitting clothes for women. Herbert Kasper started designing under the label in 1965. Kasper designed a slightly higher priced line. Kasper designed under the label, Joan Leslie, a division of Leslie Fay.
