- Hardy Amies became the first women's fashion designer to start a men's line in 1959. Created his couture house in 1946: Hardy Amies Ltd. Hardy Amies was appointed Royal Dressmaker in 1955. Designed clothing for celebrities and royalty throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He is famous for designing the costumes for "2001: A Space Odyssey". Pairs with dress 1994.002.007.
