Description
Ethelmae (Sandy) Thomas was a research assistant in the Food Technology Department from 1948 to 1950. She was born in 1922 in Portland, Oregon. She was married when she came to OSC. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, with additional study in education, from OSC in 1947. Before coming to OSC, she served as a Dental Technician for two years in the WAVES during World War 2, where she was stationed at the San Diego Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. and was also Director of Nutrition Service in the Marion County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was hired as an instructor making $2400 per year. She resigned in 1950.
