Note
Viennese brand ?Haus & Garten?, probably designed by Josef Frank in the 1930s. Frank was an intellectual and writer who designed textiles, furniture, and architecture. He challenged European Modernism with his ideas that art should not be narrowed or strictly defined. While he held to the basic ideas of Modernism, he brought in nature, vibrant color, and unique, bold patterns. He rejected equating art with industry, as if it were an imposition on creativity and spontaneity, which were essential to art. He believed art should serve a purpose to make us happy and lift our stresses, and rigid lines and the bland color palette of the Industrial Modernism could not accomplish this without incorporating other ideas. His assistant was quoted to call him, ?an intellectual, who built ideas?. He was also inspired by William Morris as seen here in this design.
