Abstract
Lynne was born in 1956 in Seattle, Washington. She grew up in a working-class family in Milwaukie, Oregon. Her father was a business manager and her mother stayed at home. She received a B.S. in Home Economics: Child Development and Family Life, from Oregon State University in 1978, and a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon in 1979. When she was in graduate school at the University of Oregon, she came out to her family. Initially her family disowned her, but later her mom became a great advocate for gay rights. She was active in the Eugene Metropolitan Community Church, the first Christian church for gays and lesbians, for most of the 1980s. In the early 1990s, Lynne was one of the first Americans to adopt a baby girl from China. Lynne discusses working in the Eugene school district, teaching students with disabilities, and being out to colleagues. Lynne talks about the fear she experienced during the campaign for Ballot Measure 9. Lynne talks about her 25-year relationship with her partner, parenting issues, and spirituality. Lynne retired eight years ago, and now volunteers and travels for Days for Girls, a global organization that provides sustainable menstrual hygiene kits for girls in developing World Countries. She also volunteers with the No One Dies Alone program at the hospital.
