This work was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 1990., The Mountain House consists of two parts, the house itself, built in 1852, and a two-story structure that was added to it in 1886. The Mountain House is one of the first frame dwellings in Oregon south of the Willamette Valley and is the oldest known dwelling in southern Oregon. The house was an important landmark during the pioneer settlement era. The house was in the possession of Major Hugh Barron and his family in the late 19th century and later.
