Image Description from historic lecture booklet: "Samaria was formerly a city of great importance in Palestine. It was situated on a hill of more than 300 feet elevation and was well adapted for a fortified capital. Its commerce and trader was extensive. In 722 B.C. there came a strong invading army of Assyrians and the city fell into their hands. The most prominent of the population were carried into exile and a mixture of all kinds of people constituted the population from that time on. The ruins here pictured show a part of the ruins of the city gate and wall."
Image Description from historic lecture booklet "Hebron is very ancient, built originally before tanis in Egypt. It was David's first capital, and the headquarters of Absolom's rebellion. It is the prettily situated, in a fertile and beautiful region. The present population is about 14,000, of whom 1,100 are Jews; the rest are unusually fanatical. Hebron is about 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem."
When Germany invaded and occupied Belgium, she seized all raw materials and brought industry to a standstill. Belgium is the most densely populated country in Europe and foodstuffs began to grow short very quickly. To meet this need, the “Commission for Relief in Belgium” of which Herbert Hoover was president, was organized to import and distribute food among the Belgians. Here we see the people getting their food tickets.
This is Sir Robert Baden Powell, shown here as a fine type of Englishman. He served as a British military officer in India, Afghanistan, and South Africa. In 1908 he founded the Boy Scouts, and has been noted for his love and knowledge of outdoor life.
One of the city gates. All of these ancient cities are surrounded by walls, because they were also strongholds--they had to defend themselves against attacks of enemies. City gates formed the entraces. Each city usually had three or four city gates.
The famous "burg", or castle of Nuremberg, dating back to the year 1050 when it was built. Originally the Princes or "Burggrafen" had their residence here.
The so-called "little fountain" near the market square--Gothic style. The houses are also in the Gothic style. There is a wonderful sculpture and sculptural design on this fountain.
