She was awarded a tuition-fee scholarship at the University of Oregon where she undertook drawing and painting, studying with Andy Vincent, David McCosh, and Jack Wilkinson. She received her undergraduate degree in 1949, returning in 1966 to teach art, and by 1972 was a full professor. Professor Krause taught at the University of Oregon for 20 years until she retired in 1986.
