Steve Lyons was selected in the first round of the 1981 baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox after completing a successful three-year career as a shortstop with the Beavers. During his nine-year major league career he played for Boston, the Chicago White Sox, the Atlanta Braves, and the Montreal Expos. Nicknamed "Psycho," Lyons is perhaps best remembered as the player who in 1990 dropped his pants to brush the dirt out after sliding headlong into first base.
After playing baseball for OSU, Scott Anderson was drafted in the 7th round of the draft in 1984. He played for the Texas Rangers in 1987, the Montreal Expos in 1990, and the Kansas City Royals in 1995. Photo was used in the 2006 Oregon State Baseball Guide, page 83.
Jack Riley coached the OSU Baseball team from 1973-1994. His record was 613-411-5 in the 22 seasons he coached the Beavers. Photo was used in the 2006 Oregon State Baseball guide, page 6.
Jim Wilson was inducted into the Oregon State Hall of Fame in 2003. He played for the Beavers in the early 1980s and went on to play pro baseball with the Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians. Photo was used in the 2006 Oregon State Baseball guide, page 77.
