Description: This life-size relief sculpture is in cast stone with metal reinforcing. The inscription on the front of the piece is from "The Unnamable" by Samuel Beckett. This contained figure is relaxed, not repressed. She represents the heroism of continuing the journey, of going on. Description: This fountain consists of a concrete stair that holds several large boulders. The water cascades down the stairs, around the boulders, and fills a small pool at the bottom., Alice Wingwall; Science Complex; U of O Water Feature, Alice Wingwall is a blind artist. She suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary degenerative disease of the eye. She relies to a great deal on her other senses in envisioning her art, and designed the fountain in the courtyard by the sounds water makes when falling on rocks. Wingwall earned an M.F.A. in sculpture from UC Berkeley and was a professor of sculpture and director of the studio arts program at Wellesley College. She has explored many different mediums, and she trained in stained-glass fabrication in Paris. Description: An abstract, mixed media painting rendered primarily in pastel blues, pinks, and yellows. Dark blue and red accent the piece., Frederick Heidel; Palm Land; 1990; mixed media; 30x30 inches; ohsu movable, Former chairman of the art & architecture department and professor of art at Portland State University for over 25 years, Frederick Heidel is well known and respected for his work in glass and acrylic paintings. Throughout his career, Heidel has exhibited widely including major shows at the San Francisco Museum of Art, Portland Art Museum, University of Oregon Art Museum, Smith/Anderson Gallery, Palo Alto, CA and Glasgalene Kuhler, Amsterdam, Holland. The artist has also been awarded numerous commissions and is included in many public and private collections. A painter, Heidel began working in glass in 1967 after receiving a Chapelbrook Foundation Grant to work in the glass factories in Holland. Since that time, the artist has traveled to the studios of Glassobjekte Van Tetterode to execute glass sculpture from drawings he has prepared in his Portland studio. The exploration of this medium has lead Heidel to create sculpture of painted light and the nuances of the colorful laminated glass harkens to the painterly and fluid surfaces of his paintings. Heidel's works on paper reflect the translucent quality of his glass sculpture. Description: Linear steel football players that are captured in football play stance., William Disbro Studio; 75 Campbell Avenue, Jamestown, NY 14701; Forward Pass; 8 feet high; 1991; Stainless Steel; Univ. of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon, William S. Disbro has been a professor of art at Jamestown Community College, and has received a commission to create a sculpture for the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Ore. The 8-foot high piece, titles 'Forward Pass' and fabricated in 1/4-inch stainless steel, will be located between the university's new Len Casanova Athletic Center and football stadium. Funds for the sculpture were provided by the Oregon Arts Commission's Arts in Public Places program. A member of the JCC faculty since 1970, Disbro earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Kent State University. He was awarded a state University of New York Research Foundation Grant in 1976. A 1987 recipient of the JCC Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, Disbro is a member of the College Art Association and the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts.
