One of the Great Locomotives of all time, UP 8444 takes water at The Dalles during visit in April 1974 with aid of City Firemen and a nearby fire hydrant. On level track it could haul 20 sleepers at 80 mph.
One of the last pictures of scenic and historic Celilo Falls was this one taken Sept. 9, 1956. That fall the Dam was closed and the Falls were flooded out.
One of the worst railroad wrecks in the past 50 years took place on the Oregon Trunk Railroad a few miles north of the tunnel on the lower Deschutes River as shown in this Sept. 22, 1949, aerial photo with Larry Moore as the pilot.
A part of one of the biggest crowds ever in The Dalles took part in Ceremonies of Dedication at the Dam and following luncheon at The Dalles Junior High School. This was the outdoors crowd.
