1 p. Christian 1992 Burchard's biography & exhibition list., Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1955, Christian has been living in the United States since 1978. Building on a foundation laid by a furniture makers apprenticeship in Germany in the middle seventies, he studied sculpture and drawing first at the Museum School in Boston and then at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver BC. In 1982 he and his wife, Micheline, opened Cold Mountain Studio in Southern Oregon. His early focus was on furniture and interiors, but gradually shifted to woodturning and sculpture, moving between vessel oriented forms and sculptural turning. His work has been included in most of the major turning related exhibits of the last ten years and is exhibited widely throughout the US. His pieces are part of many public and private collections. He is also sought after as a teacher and demonstrator at craft schools and conferences and related turning events. The DeGuire-Ludowitzki House, built about 1907, is a locally notable example of a modest Colonial Revival-style residence in the foursquare form. Foursquare homes are generally two stories tall with four relatively equally-sized rooms on each floor arranged around an entry and stair. Foursquare residences were a flexible house type and could exhibit a number of styles, including Colonial Revival, which drew inspiration from classical architecture. The DeGuire-Ludowitzki House exhibits the style though the symmetrical placement of windows and doors with decorative trim, round wood Doric columns supporting the wrap-around porch, corner boards, and wide fascia at the roofline. Charles Francis DeGuire, who was the son of one of Silverton’s established families, constructed the home. He later sold the residence to German immigrant and local builder John Ludowitzki and his wife Mary. The house remained in the Ludowitzki family after their death until 1938.

1 p. Barry Gunderson's 1986 biography., Barry Gunderson has been a Professor of Studio Art at Kenyon College, Ohio. He joined the department in 1974 after receiving his MFA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. He has taught all the sculpture courses in the Department from the intro level "Three Dimensional Design" to the more unusual courses such as "Art with a Function" and "Art with Four Legs." His work also deals with the third dimension from outdoor public commissions to smaller studio pieces. "Learning to be an artist is a very complex process. Learning to enjoy Art by trying to make it is also complex. Once it is started the process has to be practiced and explored - perhaps for a lifetime. As an Artist/Teacher I think it is important to share my studio trials and tribulations for art-making is always fun but rarely easy. It is also important to share the joys of this activity - those times when an idea in combination with carefully selected and worked materials yields a product I am proud to exhibit. It is also a joy to help students dig deeply into themselves, then to use all their energies and resourcefulness to create a work they never thought possible." Deborah DeWit was born in 1956 in Portland. Oregon. Four weeks after her birth, her mother returned with her to South America to re-join the rest of the family. She grew up traveling with her family and living in such places as the Philippines, New York, Minnesota, South Carolina, Florida, El Salvador, Colorado, Scotland and finally ended up in Portland in 1979. Photography was never a career choice and she entered Cornell University as an Agronomy major. After two years she decided to give her hobby, photography, more serious attention and moved to Colorado where her parents were living at the time. In order to finance her endeavors, she cheffed in restaurants for two years and in her spare time roamed the mountains outside Denver looking and experimenting with her camera. In 1978 she left for Scotland, where she worked on a farm, driving tractors, hoeing turnips and moving cattle from field to field. It was here that her real passion developed. Things such as deep sea life, insects, birds, fish, and architectural structures appeal to me, and I combine them in my compositions.
