Description: A colored photograph with the caption "Columbia River Log Raft ready for Ocean Voyage, Another raft under construction in background". In the foreground on the left side of the photo are log pilings and what looks like a water wheel or some sort of scaffolding on the side of a building. On the river and partly obscured by the pilings is a man in a rowboat. He seems to be regarding the cigar-shaped ocean-going log raft being pulled by a tugboat. There are chains holding the log raft together, running across the logs every few feet. White smoke or steam streams from the tug's smokestack. Another tug is approaching. To the right of the tugs is a log cradle where the rafts are formed. On the beach are what look like log buildings, with red roofs. At the far end of the buildings tall light-colored pilings are standing. Behind them and all along the shore is a lush forest.

Description: Black and white image showing construction on the Ariel Dam. In the distance are trees along the top of the hillside. In the upper right of the picture is a wooden structure consisting of scaffolding and a building with wooden steps leading down from it. This structure is on a dirt hillside leading down to a body of water. At the base of the steps is an automobile from the 1920s. In the center of the image is a wooden building with some barrels stacked behind it. There are wires stretched across the image leading down to a hook that is being positioned by a construction worker. A fish truck is being constructed across the water in the lower part of the image. Ariel Dam is one in a string of huge power development units on the Lewis River. With its headwaters in the icefields on the western slopes of Mount Adams, the Lewis River flows westward through Gifford Pinchot National Forest to the western boundary of Skamania County. From there to the Columbia River, it represents the boundary between Cowlitz County and Lewis County.

Description: A black and white photograph of a steamboat identified as the "Selkirk" on the Columbia River above Wenatchee. The Selkirk was built in Wenatchee in 1899 and was owned by the Columbia & Okanogan Steamboat Co. She was wrecked at Rock Island Rapids in 1906. In the photograph we see her near a bend in the river. On the opposite shore is a low riverbank which quickly gives way to abruptly steep mountains, sparsely treed with conifers. Billowing clouds of smoke emerge from the ship's smokestack, but the reflection in the water and what looks like a line from ship to water on the right of the photo suggests that she is moored, or at least moving slowly.Several male figures are visible on upper and lower decks. It looks as though there is a cabin on the far bank.

At the far left a tall smokestack is seen behind some buildings. In the middle of the photo is a building with the large letters OWL (possibly standing for the Union Pacific Railroad's Oregon-Washington Limited) near the top. Various other buildings, some wooden, line the riverbank. Tall log pilings are driven in several places along the shore. Near the shore in the middle of the photo is a barge. Towards the left on the bank is a large flat piece of material tilted into the water, perhaps something to do with the building of a bridge across the Columbia. In the background to the right of the photo are trees and low hills.

Description: Black and white image of a sightseeing group standing on the railroad tracks running along the Columbia River. The group consists of men and women dressed in clothing from the 1920s. The women wear broad-brimmed hats, long-sleeved coats or javkets that come down to knee level, and long skirts that reach almost to the ground. The men wear a variety of hats, suit jackets, white shirts, and ties. Behind them the railroad tracks enter a tunnel. The tracks are at the base of a cliff on which brush and pine trees grow. On the left hand side of the image the river flows by. Cape Horn is visible in the distance.
