One type of cranberry harvesting machines becoming popular in Coos County bogs is a vacuum. Jim Olson, Bandon grower, foreground, used two of these machines when harvesting his 2 1/2 acre bog. Olson's bog yielded around 800 quarter-barrel boxes per acre.
Hop pickers Dorothy & Olgo Brutke of Amity are seen at the Fred Viesko hop yard west of Gervais, Oregon. They averaged better than $11.00 a day picking hops.

Mr. and Mrs H.L. Worley, from Longview, Washington, are picking hops at the Mitoma Hop Yard near Independence. He is a Texan; she is a Minnesotan. He was a Marine private during the war and saw service at Bremerton, Washington. Presently, he is a second rigger in the woods and is picking hops while the woods are closed as a fire precation. $8.13 one day--August 21
