Merrill Oveson was an Extension agent for Umatilla County from 1931-1938 and served as the Superintendent of the Pendleton Experiment Station from 1948-1966. A white winter wheat variety is named after Oveson.
Dr. G. Burton Wood (left) served as Director of the OSU Agricultural Experiment Station from 1966 until his retirement in 1975. Previous to this, he served as head of the Department of Agricultural Economics from 1951 until 1966. Wood earned a BS degree from the University of Oregon, an MS from Oregon State College, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.. Dr. Charles R. Rohde (right) was a Professor of Agronomy at Pendleton Experiment Station and Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center from 1952-1988.
Ralph S. Besse (left) was a farm management Extension specialist from 1922-1932, then served as Assistant Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station from 1932-1949. From 1949-1953, Besse was Associate Director of the Experiment Station. Helen Besse (right).
Jack McDermid was the Superintendent for the Sherman County Experiment Station from 1946-1964. McDermid was an Extension agent from 1943-1944. A new variety of soft white wheat was named after him.
Warren E. Kronstad (right) was a faculty member in the Crop and Soil Science department from 1959-1998. Thomas L. Jackson (left) was an Extension Soil Science specialist from 1952-1983, with a focus on soil fertility.
Robert W. Henderson received a B.S. in Agronomy in 1938. Henderson served as Assistant Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and a Farm Crops faculty member from 1946-1976.
Howard Horton was Professor of Fisheries from 1958-1991. He served as Agricultural Experiment Station Assistant to the Director and Head of International Fisheries among other responsibilities during his tenure.
