Description
A circular, painted composition that plays with the allocation of color and space within the circle, in quadrants, and in the negative space surrounding the circle, defined by the picture itself. The composition is constructed through thick, painted lines in bold colors such as blue, green, red, yellow, and black., Lucinda Parker; Exekial's wheel; psu prof school, Lucinda Parker received her M.F.A. from the Pratt Institute in New York in 1968 and started work as a professor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland in 1974. Her work has been exhibited in numerous one-person shows throughout the west as well as several exhibitions nationally, including the David Findly Gallery and Sue Ellen Haber Gallery in New York, the Seattle Art Museum, the Corcoran Gallery in D.C., and the First Western States Biennial, that traveled to San Francisco, Denver, and Washington D.C. Lucinda Parker's public commissions can be seen in Portland: "Riversong" for the Oregon Convention Center, "Talking Leaves" for the Multnomah Co. Midland Library, and "City Rose & Rose City" for the renovated Portland City Hall. Description
An abstract, mixed media painting rendered primarily in pastel blues, pinks, and yellows. Dark blue and red accent the piece., Frederick Heidel; Palm Land; 1990; mixed media; 30x30 inches; ohsu movable, Former chairman of the art & architecture department and professor of art at Portland State University for over 25 years, Frederick Heidel is well known and respected for his work in glass and acrylic paintings. Throughout his career, Heidel has exhibited widely including major shows at the San Francisco Museum of Art, Portland Art Museum, University of Oregon Art Museum, Smith/Anderson Gallery, Palo Alto, CA and Glasgalene Kuhler, Amsterdam, Holland. The artist has also been awarded numerous commissions and is included in many public and private collections. A painter, Heidel began working in glass in 1967 after receiving a Chapelbrook Foundation Grant to work in the glass factories in Holland. Since that time, the artist has traveled to the studios of Glassobjekte Van Tetterode to execute glass sculpture from drawings he has prepared in his Portland studio. The exploration of this medium has lead Heidel to create sculpture of painted light and the nuances of the colorful laminated glass harkens to the painterly and fluid surfaces of his paintings. Heidel's works on paper reflect the translucent quality of his glass sculpture.
