A longtime Corvallis resident raised on a local poultry farm, Beth Russell graduated from Oregon State College in 1937 with an undergraduate degree in Home Economics. After college, Beth worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and became active in local service organizations.
E. B. Lemon's photo was taken at the time of his appointment as Dean of Administration. Photo was used in the October 1943 issue of Oregon Stater. E. B. Lemon received a business degree from Oregon Agricultural College in 1911, becoming a part-time accounting instructor until 1943. Lemon also held the office of University Registrar from 1922-1943 and was Dean of Administration from 1943-1959.
Clark Edwards Schultz and his family moved to Corvallis in 1909 and Schultz enrolled in Oregon Agricultural College. He graduated in 1912 with a B.S. degree in agriculture. The family moved to California in 1912 and operated an orange grove. Schultz worked as an inspector of fruit and vegetable crops and in wholesale agricultural shipping at various locations throughout the U.S., but primarily in California. Schultz died in California in 1983.
Schubert earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Oregon State College in 1950 and 1956. He worked first as a Research Assistant and later as Assistant Chemist in the Agricultural Chemistry Department from 1951 until his resignation in 1963. Schubert left OSU to accept employment with the Public Health Service.
Receiving a MS in Soil Science from OSU in 1980, Bill Rogers began to work for the OSU Extension Service as a County Agent in Lincoln County that same year. In addition to holding adjunct faculty status in three different departments (Crop and Soil Science, Horticulture, and Forest Sciences), Rogers also worked for the 4-H Program as an aspect of his position with the Extension Service. In 1994 Rogers was promoted to the rank of Professor. He retired in 2003.
Merlin S. Eltzroth was born in Philadelphia in 1922, grew up in Ohio, and graduated from Ohio University in 1947. He married Elsie K. Eltzroth in June 1943. Eltzroth moved to Corvallis in 1971 and earned a BS degree in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University in 1974. He specialized in non-game bird biology and was a volunteer in wild bird rehabilitation and protection. In 1985, he was instrumental in the passage of Oregon laws to protect all native non-game bird species and received honors from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for his work. In 2005, he received the first Homer Campbell Award for conservation and the environment from the Audubon Society of Corvallis. Eltzroth retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 after serving in both World War II and the Vietnam War. Eltzroth died in Corvallis on October 7, 2005.
The late Wayne Valley, class of '36, was an OSU football player who went on to a highly successful business career as a home builder in California. He was also a long-time major owner of the Oakland Raiders.
