2 p. Jack McLarty's 1980 exhibition list., Jack McLarty has lived most of his life in Portland, Oregon. His family moved to Portland from Seattle in 1921. After attending the Museum Art School, he left Portland in 1940 to study at the American Artists School in New York. At the end of two years, McLarty decided New York did not suit him as a permanent home and returned to Portland. By 1945 he had reconnected with the Museum Art School accepting a teaching fellowship in lithography. He joined the regular faculty in 1947. 1 p. Claire Trotter's 1980 exhibition list., Claire Trotter is a native of the Pacific Northwest and livesin Eugene, Oregon. She acquired her basic skills in photography while apprenticed to a commercial photographer in Chicago. Her photographs are a kind of visual haiku. In a simple statement these pictures can suggest realities beond ordinary perception. Her subject is usually nature, celebrating natural light and shadow on rocks, reeds, sand, driftwood, ice, leaves, things we usually pass without seeing. She Works mainly in black and white, using Linhof, Leica and Alpa cameras, and is intensely involved in the entire photographic process from compostion through printing. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in the United States and Europe, has been published in hournals devoted to the arts, and is represented in both public and private collections. 1p. 1979 Edward Wong exhibition list., The works in this unusual exhibit are by California artist Ed Wong. He was chosen to be artist-in-residence at Eastern Oregon State Hospital in Pendleton out of 28 applicants who applied from all parts of the country. The 4-month residency was made possible through funds from Oregon's 1% for Art in Public Places program. Ed Wong proposed to do a series of figure studies of the residents. Over the 4 months that he lived and worked in the hospital, Ed became friends with many people; he painted them in everyday situations and came to know each one as an individual. Ed's work is compassionate, immediate, and powerful. It helps to celebrate the differences in people and reinforce each personality.
