Joan Austin is holding a sign for the Valley Library's John and Shirley Bryne Reading Room. It was a gift to John Bryne, OSU President, upon his retirement. It was presented at his retirement dinner in March 1996.
From his second story window of a Second Street hotel, Bernard Malamud, former OSU English Dept. faculty member and writer, had a good view of downtown Corvallis including the shop of Jim the Fixer. The name gave Malamud the title for his 1967 Pulitzer Prize winning novel and later a motion picture, "The Fixer." Photo was used in the December 1976 Oregon Stater
