A trapezoidal base supports four arms, bent at ninety degree angles and pointing upward in this sculptual piece. The arms contain what appears to be a silver bean form. The arms are also bisected by what appears to be leaf forms that are parallel to the floor plane., Moon Blades; Manuel Izquierdo; Portland, Manuel Izquierdo was born in Madrid, Spain, and fled to the United States settling in Portland, Oregon in 1943. While he was in high school Manuel was encouraged to pursue wood-cuts by Lloyd Reynolds, the well-known calligrapher. In 1951 Manuel graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and soon after became a professor there. Manuel Izquierdo received the Oregon Governor's Award in 1991 and has exhibited work both in the Northwest and nationally, including a ten-year retrospective at the Portland Art Museum in 1967. Having completed many commissions his sculpture can be seen in a variety of Portland public spaces such as Pettygrove Square. A tall sculpture with two layers of black steel platform holding up two steel rods that twist as they go upwards. In the middle is a blue glass rod with a glass shape with flat planes at the very top., Braced Spine; 1992; (90 x 20 x 14 inches), Nancy Mee was born in Oakland, California, eventually moving to Seattle where she received a B.F.A. from the University of Washington. In 1984 she was a resident at Pilchuck School and in 1988 won the Betty Bowen Memorial Award. Mee's unique sculpture is fabricated out of fused and slumped glass and incorporates forged and cut metals. Exhibitions include the Seattle Art Museum, Bellevue Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, and the Centre International d'Art Contemporain in Chateau Beychevelle, France.
