"Interpretive trails take visitors in central Oregon's lava lands around Lava Butte's crater, over recent lava flows, and through surrounding pine forests. The Deschutes National Forest's Lava Lands Visitor Center, 10 miles south of Bend off U.S. Highway 97, features automated displays and slide shows explaining the history and geology of the recent lava flows.
