Description
Roy A. Young became Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology at Oregon State in 1948. Young was head of the Botany and Plant Pathology department from 1958-1966. Young served for a short term as acting president from 1969-1970. He also served as Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies through 1977.

Dr. Darrel D. Aufenkamp (left) was a Professor of Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computing Center Director from 1965-1970. Roy Alton Young (right), a professor of plant pathology, was appointed in 1966 as Oregon State University's dean of research with responsibility for campus-wide research coordination. He served as the university's acting president for one year until the arrival of Robert MacVicar in July 1970. Description
Roy Alton Young, a professor of plant pathology, was appointed in 1966 as Oregon State University's dean of research with responsibility for campus-wide research coordination. He served as the university's acting president for one year until the arrival of Robert MacVicar in July 1970, at which time he resumed his research coordination duties as the vice president for research and graduate studies, a position he held until 1976.

Dr. Young (left) passed on the reins of the University to the new President Robert MacVicar (right) on July 1st at the entrance to Bexell Hall, where the President's office was located at that time. Roy A. Young served as Acting President in 1969-1970. MacVicar was Oregon State University President from 1970 to 1984.
