Roderick Dashwood was a faculty member in the Linus Pauling Institute at OSU, heading the Institute's Cancer Chemoprotection Program. In 2015, he left OSU to become director of the Center for Epigenetics and Disease Prevention at Texas A&M University.
Marcus J. Borg (1942-2015) was a professor in the OSU Philosophy Department from 1979 to 2007, and was recognized internationally as a leading scholar on Jesus as a historical figure.
Lunch was well known for his political commentaries and analysis on Oregon Public Broadcasting, which began in 1988. He was often heard on OPB’s Oregon Considered radio program and the Seven Days television program. He was a faculty member in OSU’s Political Science Department from 1984 to 2011, and served as department chair his last eight years.
Leong is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Microbiology who worked at OSU from 1975-2002, concentrating on viruses. While in Corvallis, she developed successful treatments for viral diseases afflicting regional trout and salmon using techniques including vaccines created from recombinant DNA.
The natatorium, completed just before this photograph was taken, was the second phase of the recreation center. Phase one opened in 1976, and phase three was completed in 2004. The natatorium was named for George Stevens, Memorial Union director from 1963 to 1990 and a strong proponent of recreational sports at OSU.
The Gladys Valley Gymnastics Center is housed within the former Mitchell Playhouse. It has been the training space for OSU gymnastics since 1992. Funding for restoring and refurbishing the space came from the Wayne and Galdys Valley Foundation.
