Description
This piece is comprised of four distinct sections. The left third of the picture plane is contained by a rectangle with a bottom portion that implies perspective and leads the viewer into the rest of the picture plane. It contains a decorative pattern reminiscent of Gustav Klimt. The remaining two-thirds of the picture plane are further broken down into the three remaining sections. A horizontal rectangular area across the top contains three separate squares containing three circles depicting three different views of a house. Beneath this section is the main rectangular area depicting a clump of trees reflected in water next to a checkboard-pattern floor. This section is subdivided by the fourth rectangular section that contains tapetry-like patterns., View from the Studio; Jon Jay Cruson; State Capitol, Jon Jay Cruson is a N.W. artist who grinds, draws, etches, and pulls his own prints from the lithographic stone - on a hand cranked late 1800's press. A portrait of a Native American woman rendered in black and white., James Mattingly; dallas oregon; lummi lady; graphics; h-1, Jim Mattingly took his formal education, both undergraduate and graduate levels, at San Jose State University (then College) in San Jose California. Upon leaving graduate school, he took a position at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Later in 1968, he took a position at Western Oregon University (then Oregon College of Education) in Monmouth, Oregon. During his years at Western he developed the printmaking program in the art department, was Art Department Head from 1977-1986, was the first studio instructor at Western to be promoted to Full Professor in 1980 and received the campus-wide Faculty Honors Award in 1985. Mattingly enjoyed teaching a great deal. "Much more important than my teaching were my students-the many wonderful people I came to know throughout my teaching career. I am very proud of the many achievements they have since accomplished in their own right." Flamboyant colors and patterns as well as human silhouettes converge toward the center of this painting., Jack McLarty; tracking; state capital v II, Jack McLarty has lived most of his life in Portland, Oregon. His family moved to Portland from Seattle in 1921. After attending the Museum Art School, he left Portland in 1940 to study at the American Artists School in New York. At the end of two years, McLarty decided New York did not suit him as a permanent home and returned to Portland. By 1945 he had reconnected with the Museum Art School accepting a teaching fellowship in lithography. He joined the regular faculty in 1947.
