This old Fairbanks scales stands deserted in Marion County's ornate Courthouse attic. It was used at one time to weigh the gold brought in by the early settlers. It is in perfect condition and is so sensitive that even a piece of paper placed on one side will cause the needle to sway. Also to be found near by is a group of round pans of various sizes that were used along with the scales in those early days.
