A black-and-white stereoscopic view published by Underwood & Underwood. The caption reads "Stupendous Log-Raft, containing millions of feet - a Camp's years's work, profit $20,000 - Columbia River, Oregon. Copyright 1902 L, Underwood & Underwood." A huge log raft is floating on the Columbia. Six men can be seen on it; three are standing as if posed for the camera in the foreground, and three others seem to be working in the background. The men wear work clothes such as overalls, and some wear hats. The logs have been stripped of their bark and laid together end-to-end, then chained across. A few loose logs float in the river at the left side of the "raft"; on its right side can be seen the trees that line the shore.
A view of the Columbia River shore at Arlington, Oregon, on January 12, 1909. The Columbia River is frozen. In the foreground is the white riverbank, with a large boulder to the left. Near the shore on the right of the photo is a pier, with a sailboat at its end. In the center we see a stern-wheeler. A long rope leads out from it and is coiled on the frozen river. A group of five men stand nearby, close to a rectangular area of water that has been freed of ice. Their attention is on a sixth man who is standing in a rowboat pushing at the ice with a long pole. One of the group on the river also carries a long pole. The writing on the photograph says the temperature is 20 below zero and the first time in 24 years the river had frozen over.

There is water lying inland next to the railroad tracks and some trees are partially submerged in the water. In the left foreground is a winding road with some utility poles alongside it. It is a bright, sunny day and in the distance can be seen tree-covered slopes or hillsides.

A building crane and a number of smokestacks emitting plumes of smoke are visible. There seems to be a water tower on the left of the photo. Tall pilings have been driven in places along the riverbank; some wooden buildings are visible. The verticle lift bridge designed by Waddell & Harrington has just begun to jut out over the water.

In the foreground is the riverbank where it touches upon a sandy beach. There are two pillars at the riverbank and two that can be seen inland (there may be more), with the beach situated between the pairs. Upon the beach are remnants of trees: stumps, branches and logs, along with a number of wired utility poles. Behind the riverbank is an elevated, level area that may be a road. There are equally distanced posts outlining the level area. In the far background are rising hills covered with fir trees. The pillars are substantial in height; each has patches of green moss over a predominantly gray surface.

A black-and white photograph of a group of men on a bank of the Columbia River. On the bank lies a fishing seine or net, which some of them are still hauling out of the water. Dark floats can be seen at the edges of the seine. In the water a few feet from the bank is a wooden rowboat. One of its oars is set so it sticks up vertically. At its stern is a haul of fish, which a man in a wide-brimmed hat and long white apron is touching. He is one of about ten men, all but one wearing hats or caps, who are lined up in the water and along the edge of the shore contemplating the catch or watching the photographer. Another man in apron and hat stands in the water at the prow of the ship, hands on hips. Across the wide river are forested hills.

The paddlewheel of the Dalles City is clearly seen as the ship makes her way towards the lock. A few people are visible on the deck of the boat, and others are along both sides of the canal. A series of stairs follows the water. On the near side of the canal a beached rowboat is tied up, and the area is strewn with rocks. Beyond the locks is the roof of a building. In the distance are forested hills and mountains.
