Accordion-folded pages are glued to one side of the paper-over-board covers and cloth-case binding. The book can be read as if the folded pages are part of a codex, or with the complete page block turned to the front, the back of the accordion can be read, or the accordion can be pulled fully out. Images and text run continuously over the folds. The book is about the horrors of war and specifically of genocide, discussing 20th century genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Iraq and El Salvador. The tetra tetra flexagon structure of this book creates what appears to be a two-dimensional object, which can be turned three times to reveal four distinct and non-repeating images. the Queen of Wands is a figure from the Tarot deck who represents a sypathetic figure, and is here connected to other women artists and printers, and most specifically to Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo. The wand used in this book also represents the pica or "speaking" stick, used to pass the right to speak in a group. This accordion fold book is made without covers and opens vertically. Only one side of the accordion is used, and pages are an exagerated landscape. The contents are sepia toned photographs of a studio space in which a large project changes from scene to scene. Each page is labeled stage 1, stage 2 etc..., Library has two copies; This book was originally part of the Artists and Photographs Box published by Multiples Inc. along with books by Mel Bochner, Christo, Jan Dibbets, Tom Gormley, Dan Graham, Douglas huebler, Allen Kaprow, Joseph Kosuth, Michael Kirby, Sol LeWitt, richard Long, Robert Morris, Bruce Nauman, Dennis Oppenheim, Robert Rauschenberg, ed Ruscha, Robert Smithson, Bernar Venet, and Andy Warhol. Project catalog text by Lawrence Alloway. Each book was issued as an unnumbered edition of 1200, with 200 of each editon boxed together as the Artists and Photographs Box. Hybrid cartographie, about three building projects in the modern city of Seoul, Korea is a maze book-- made up of complex folds as in an accordion book but twisting and moving in multiple directions as it is unfolded. When completely unfolded the book's pages formthe shape of a mobius strip. Directions for unfolding the book are found on each page in the form of arrows and instructions, but the reader is warned at the beginning that the book is both a map and a detour. Includes bibliographical references.
