Novelist Bernard Malamud was an English professor at Oregon State College from 1949 to 1961. During this time he wrote three novels: The Natural (1952), The Assistant (1957), and A New Life (1961) as well as a collection of short stories, The Magic Barrel (1959) for which he received the National Book Award. He was presented OSU's Distinguished Service Award in 1969.

Norb Wellman pitched for the Beavers from 1952 through 1954. He pitched one of the 1952 playoff wins against Fresno State that put Oregon State into the College World Series. The photograph appeared on the cover of the 1954 Beaver baseball press guide.
Jay Dean was a two-time All-American first baseman. He played for the Beavers from 1952-1955 and was selected as an All-American in 1954 and 1955 by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Dean holds the OSU career batting average record (.379) and has been considered the best player in OSU baseball history.
Jerry Routson harvests his fine crop of D'Anjou pears. He has a large crew of men working in various parts of the orchard. Full boxes of pears were scattered throughout the orchard waiting to be hauled to packing sheds.

The photographer was standing on the edge of the dam near the head gates of the flume when this picture was taken. The lake is well stocked with trout and is a Mecca for Southern Oregon Fishermen.
This old Fairbanks scales stands deserted in Marion County's ornate Courthouse attic. It was used at one time to weigh the gold brought in by the early settlers. It is in perfect condition and is so sensitive that even a piece of paper placed on one side will cause the needle to sway. Also to be found near by is a group of round pans of various sizes that were used along with the scales in those early days.
