Description
Hand tinted image. Two Japanese womensit in an interior space. One woman kneels in front of a dressing table. She is dressed in a mid-length coat called a haorirobe with diamond-shaped patterns on its surface. Underneath this coat she wears a kimono. A woman stands behind her dressing her hair. She is dressed in a white smock and holds a hair pick in her hand. Sitting on the tatami matts next to the womenare glass bottles with labels, a small washtub, and and a miniature stand with a flat surface. Hanging from the side of the wooden mirror is an oval wooden hand mirror. Visible in the background of the image is a doorway, brazier, Fusuma screen doors, and a tokonoma (alcove).
