A Native American man, identified as Chief No-Shirt of the Walla Walla Tribe, is sitting on a horse in a grass field. An encampment, consisting of tipis, wagons, and horses, appears in the background. The man is wearing a feathered headdress, necklaces, a sash, and a cloth shirt. He is clasping a brush in his right hand. His right cheek bears a marking that appears to have been painted on his face. The horse is adorned with saddle blankets, furs, and other trappings.

An outside photograph of a man in his regalia sitting on a horse. He has been identified as No-Shirt. He is wearing a single trailor horned headdress with Eagle feathers, fur bandoleer, choker, cloth shirt. Draped in front of him are an unidentified fur pelt and a Hudson Bay blanket. In his right hand is an unidentified object. The horse is wearing a beaded martingale with bells and small cloth fringes on the bottom of the martingale. On the horse's forehead are a number of different kinds of feathers. In the background are three canvas tipis which are right behind him. On the left side of the photograph are more horses tied to posts or a rope line and a wagon. Writing on the photograph is "Chief No-Shirt Walla Walla Tribe Maj. Moorhouse."
