Description
A Native American encampment, located in a clearing next to a stand of trees (deciduous without leaves and conifers), at the base of a hill or mountain. There are four tipis made of mats and canvas, and one larger tent structure, made of canvas. There are two wooden barns, one with a saddled horse next to it. There are several wagons, a segment of fence, and various wooden crates and sundries scattered about. One of the wagons is loaded with materials for another tipi, next to the beginning of a new wooden barn or shelter (posts, cross beam, grassy roof). At the far right edge of the photo is part of a wooden structure or dwelling.

A Native American man, identified as Dr. Whirl-wind (Charley Whirlwind, Sr.) of the Cayuse Tribe, is mounted on a horse. The man is wearing buckskin pants and shirt and moccasins. The shirt is decorated with feathers and beadwork on the front and sleeves. He is wearing a headdress with a full crown of feathers and strips of fur hanging down around his shoulders. He has a large beaded choker. The horse is solid brown in color and has a saddle, saddle blanket and bridle. On the ground in front of the horse is a dog with long, fluffy white hair. The man, horse, and dog are on a slope on the side of a mountain. Around them are some other slopes and some stands of pine trees. The top of the mountain is in the background.

She is holdings a tomahawk in her right hand with a small pelt draped over it. She holds a round shield with a fur decoration in her left hand. Her dress has a V-neck which is decorated with a striped yoke. The skirt of the dress is decorated with long fringes threaded with beads. She is wearing a necklace and a hat. The kneeling woman is wearing a fringed and beaded leather dress with a cape. She is holding a bow in her left hand. She has a basket hat woven in a geometic design on her head. On the wall behind the women are several artifacts and objects, including: two cradleboards with floral designs, a photograph of a bulldog, a basket with geometric designs, a military cap, a military helmet, two swords, a harness, two bugles, some unidentified gear, belts, two pair of moccasins with floral beading, two bags with floral designs, an unidentified artifact with long fringes, one woven bag with geometric designs, three belts or sashes with geometric designs, an animal pelt, a long feathered headdress, a saddle, a long necklace, a buckskin coat with fringes and some other clothes. There is a poster behind the women with a picture of soldiers and Native Americans on horseback; the number "49" can be seen on it. Description
Three Native American men, identified as Young Chief, Whirlwind, and Chief No-shirt, are mounted on dark-colored horses on a plain in front of four tipis. Each man carries a staff with ermine, eagle feathers, or other decoration, and Young Chief holds a second, shorter staff with long fringe. All wear headdresses with ermine hanging down, and eagle feather trails, and two have horned headdresses. The men wear beaded moccasins and beaded pants. One wears a cloth vest, one a cloth shirt, and one a buckskin shirt. The pants of two men are visible and seem to be cloth with strips of geometric beading. The horses have beaded bridles, martingales, masks, and reins, and Young Chief's horse shook its head as the photo was taken. Chief No-shirt's horse has a striped saddle blanket; the saddle has a long strip of fur hanging down from the saddle horn, nearly to the ground. All men wear jewelry. In the background at the right of the picture, the four tipis are lined up. In the background at the left, other people and part of a horse can be seen, and at the very left it looks as though someone were holding a flag.

A Native American man, identifiied as Chief No Shirt of the Walla Walla tribe, sits on a chestnut horse, facing right. He is wearing a cowboy or Spanish-styled hat with a decorated cloth hatband. Around his neck is a fur scarf, he wears a decorated cloth jacket, decorated cloth arm band, and holds a long cloth object decorated with fur and appliqued footprints draped over his right arm. His horse is wearing a high-cantled stock saddle, a plain curb bridle, and has a long fur draped across his shoulders. In the near background are two tipis. The tipi on the right has the inside partially visible, showing three pails, a pile of blankets, and a box.

Description
A wood-framed structure, covered with a striped tent cloth, appears to have three wooden walls and a wooden floor. From the open side, one can see that the tent structure is filled with an assortment of Native American objects and artifacts, suspended from the walls and crossbeam, set on a table, and arranged on the floor in front of the back wall.
